How to Replace a Car Battery 5 easy steps

Car Battery never lasts forever. The life of a Car Battery is 3 to 5 Years. If you notice any warning signs, don’t wait for a breakdown. check whether it's Battery and replace it immediately. You can change it at your home with only a few basic tools.

Find the Car Battery

All the Car Batteries have a Thick Poly Propylene Container with 2 Terminals that is Positive (+ve) and Negative (–ve) Connected to the engine with Cables. Brass or Lead metals are using to make Terminals. Terminals were connected to Clamp with nuts and Bolt fasten. It is always red color is using for Positive and Black color for negative. Don’t change polarity Positive (+ve) and Negative (–ve) Cables. Locate the position of the positive and negative Car Battery terminal and mark the polarity on one of the Cable. This will help you install the new Car Battery in the correct position.

Follow all the safety precautions

Wear Safety Glasses and Glosses while working with Car Batteries. Car batteries Produce explosive Hydrogen gas.  For this reason avoid Sparks, Flames, and cigarettes away from the Car Battery while Servicing. Don’t connect or disconnect when Car Battery is in live Connection it makes Sparks may lead to Car Battery blast

Disconnect Cables from Battery

Lose nut and bolt on the cable and detach the Car Battery terminal cables and clamps. Always remove the negative cable first (- ve sign with black cable) then Positive cable (+ve sign with red cable)  to avoid a spark. It is good to use a tie to secure the negative cable and also a positive cable to the engine bay. So it doesn’t come in touch with each other and with any metal part of the Car body.

Remove the Car Battery from Engine Bay

Remove the Car Battery from the cradle metal strap which holds the Car Battery tightly. Check whether there are any connectors that hold the battery to the cradle. You need a socket wrench with an extension bar. Lose all the bolts, Take the metal strap carefully without falling down two long screws, pull the battery out of the engine bay gently. There is a chance to spill electrolyte this will destroy other car parts. Don’t pull the Car battery out by holding Car battery terminals.

Select the correct replacement Battery

Take the Old Car Battery to the Car Battery Shop/Dealer/ Showroom where you planned to purchase a new Car Battery. You will be paid for the old Car Battery as per the available market rate. Otherwise, take the Picture and write down the part number size on the Old Battery. There you can find the appropriate new Battery for replacement. You should check the voltage of the new Battery at the shop itself also read the warranty details if any on the provided card.

Fitting the New Battery.

Fix the new battery to the cradle tightened metal strap. Follow the reverse process when you used to remove the old battery. Apply petroleum jelly to both terminals. Reconnect the positive cable first then the Negative Cable. Tightened both clamps with a wrench and confirm that wrench or cables come into contact with each other or to any metal part of the car.

Start the Car

Start the car and check volt and current flow to the battery from the Car alternator with a voltmeter. Switch on all your electronic devices to make sure it is working. Also, confirm once again all the screws and bolts were tightened correctly.
